Treat's Personality
Home

Treat was abundantly full of little quirky personality traits, that added together made up one of the most special pets anyone has enjoyed.  We have tried to list all that we can remember here.  If you remember something else, that we should list, please e-mail us at :  mailto:treatmemorial@i5net.net

treatcuddles.jpg (11153 bytes)Princess: Treat was such a little princess about things.  She really didn't like to get her feet wet.  If we tried to walk her when it was raining she would stay under the eves as much as possible, only venturing out to quickly do her business, then right back under the eves. Her hair would curl up when she got wet.  It was soooo cute!

treat-xmas2.jpg (65537 bytes)Big Brown Eyes:  Tamara would tease me by telling Treat that I would give her anything if she would just look up at me with those big brown eyes.  Her eyes were a dark brown and she knew how to use them.  She had several facial expressions that conveyed her emotions, wants, dislikes, etc... very well.

treat-sleepin1.JPG (43778 bytes)Her Caves : She loved going "under cover".  Under the covers that is.  Most animals will snuggle up to you on top of the covers, but wont stay under the covers for very long because its too restrictive, and they are cornered.  Treat loved going under the covers, even if you were just watching a little TV.  She would even burrow under them if you weren't there, to sleep.

apple5.jpg (128733 bytes)Her Porter : She had a very orderly way of keeping her porter.  First off, since she is a digger by nature, she would dig the pad out of the back of the porter and push it up to the front.  She would put her toys either at the front or the back of the porter but never in the middle.  She would only go in her porter if we dropped her in front of it, or sometimes just to show us she could go in there and out again without us closing the door on her.  She liked being in her porter and was always very good when in it, but didn't like to go back in it after being out for a while.  In Tamara's office she used to hide under the desk thinking she could escape us and get to stay out.  Usually she would give in and come out so we could put her away, but not always!

treat-hallow14.jpg (63808 bytes)Cookies!:  She loved her puppy treats.  She especially loved the milky white soft bones at Daddy's house, the sit/stay treats that mommy would buy her, and the colored (dog bone) hearts that mommy bought.   Daddy would make her sit to get a cookie.  He didn't even have to ask anymore, she would just do it.  usually before she would eat a cookie, she would have to fling it around the room a bit.  There was always this balance of cookie taste vs. cookie play.

treat-hallow7.jpg (16736 bytes)Helping mommy at work:  She used to lounge in the sunlight in Tamara's office and stay close to Tamara's desk while she worked. Tamara says it was all for the tummy rubs.  One day right before her accident we walked into Tamara's office and found her standing on the desk, and she had changed web pages on Tamara.  Usually she would just steal Tamara's chair when she left.

treat-main.jpg (75341 bytes)Angel/Demon: Treat had two little wisps of hair that stood curled up just above her eyes near her ears.  Tom would call them her little devil horns.  Tamara said it was her halo.

Love: Tamara was probably right about the halo thing because she always assumed new people were friends.  She just wanted to love and play with everyone.

treatdallaswball1.JPG (41224 bytes)Her animal Friends: She loved Dallas and Cassie most of all.  When she was over at Tamara's place, she would torment Dallas by chasing him around for hours, nipping at his legs, and when she was taller... something else that comes in pairs on males.  If Dallas picked up a bone or toy, she would make it her mission to take it from him and make it hers.  Her and Cassie were close from the 1st night I brought her home.  treatandcassie3.jpg (80345 bytes)Perhaps Cassie knew what it was like to be the new animal or something.  The other cats just ran and hid.  Cassie knew that the new animal had big pointy teeth, so she wasn't going to wrestle with it, but she wasn't afraid either.  Treat would sneak up behind Cassie, just out of her claw range and BARK endlessly, until Cassie would chase her

Chased Puppy:  We would take Treat to the dog park near work.  She was afraid of larger dogs, but was working through her fears there.  She knew she could out corner just about any of them, and fit under the park benches and tables that the others couldn't.  So she would venture out till the others would take notice, then run away from them, letting them catch up to her.  Once they caught up, she would corner and turn on the after burners for a park bench, or keep running them in circles until somebody slipped and fell.  She was very happy at the dog park.

Her first bath:  One time after Tamara took her to the dog park, Tom had to give her a bath.  She had turned solid brown  from head to paw from running around and digging in the mud. In spite of her fear of water, she just stood still and let me wash her.  I think she really liked it and knew it would make things better.

val2000-treatsnow.JPG (38779 bytes)Bunny hop : When we first got her, her ears were too big and her legs too small to run like a normal dog.  So she learned to hop like a bunny rabbit.  Back legs together, then front legs together, etc...  As she grew she learned to run, but kept her bunny hop for use while playing, especially up and down the hallways.

apple12.gif (111673 bytes)Running: When we would let her loose in the back yard at Tom's place, she would cut loose with an explosion of energy, just running around in circles.  She would make this noise that sounded like grunting and fierce breathing. When she would run the pitter patter of her little feet always sounded like she was trying to accelerate faster than the speed of light.  badumpbadumpbadumpbadumpbadumpbadumpbadumpbadump.

Stairs: Not much I can explain about her and the stairs except to say that "Up" was up the stairs, "Down" was down the stairs, and going down the stairs she wouldn't ever touch the bottom step.  Sometimes she would have to recapture her balance while standing on her front two legs going down the stairs.

apple7.gif (161769 bytes)Her Tail: Even her tail exploded with her personality.  There were moods for it to be between the legs, or straight up in the air.  But best of all was When I would go by Tamara's desk, I could hear the drum roll of it swinging from side to side of her porter.

Back Scratches : Treat loved to have her back scratched, especially near her tail.  If you scratched her here, she could barely hold herself up, would tuck her ears back ... and look at you like "who's your daddy".

Nubbin :  Treat had a 7th nipple.  She loved to have her tummy scratched and would show it off in exchange for tummy rubs.

treat-hallow12.jpg (104468 bytes)Stretching: Whenever she would wake up or get up from laying down, she would stretch out her back legs, extended out behind her with the tops of her paws down.  It always looked like she was about to break something.

treatwithmommy2-xmas.jpg (88541 bytes)Ears : She had full control over the use of her ears as an emotional weapon against anyone.  When she was happy to see you, or wanted something (her sad look), she would tuck them down and back.  She also did this when she was running real fast (for aerodynamics) and when she was pooping really hard.  She raised her ears up too look bigger and when she was happy.  When she would use her ears and eyes combined together, she would overwhelm Tamara with cute.

"Be like me, put your nose in a good book":  One day Tamara came back from Dennys with one of the talking  dogs and gave it to Treat.  It said the slogan above.  It took Treat about 2 seconds to figure out how to make it talk.  Once she did she realized any time she bit it, it would talk to her in a kind voice.  So she bit it often.  Nearly enough to drive Tamara crazy.  Finally, Treat chewed the nose of it off, and Tamara took it away to fix it.  Also, she did like to stick her nose in good books.  We've got a number of them with the corners chewed off!

Grandma B : Whenever Tamara's mom would come to go to lunch with Tamara, she would walk Treat.

treat-sleepin2.JPG (43754 bytes)Sleeping in:  Treat loved to sleep in and definitely wasn't a morning dog.  She would even go so far as to try and keep you in bed as long as she could by laying on you.  Sometimes she would stay in bed after you got up.  She loved to sleep in the hole created behind your knee's when laying on your side.  When she needed to be walked in the middle of the night, she would really fight it, rather than let you know.  Eventually her whining would wake me up and I would take her out.  Then she would run back in the house and jump up on the couch and burrow under the covers to finish her night of sleep.

treatwmommy-xmas.jpg (98533 bytes)Puppy face vs. terrier face:  She had multiple facial expressions which she used to be cute.  Tamara would always complain that she was overwhelming her with cuteness. When she wanted to she could tuck her ears back and show you her cute puppy face.  Then when she was feeling playful, she would show her terrier face.

1stdays1.gif (69227 bytes)Sit in Daddy's arms:  She had a funny way of sitting in Tom's arms.  She would only do it for him too (started to do it for Tamara near the end).  She would sit straight up putting her head up on his shoulder, or licking his glasses etc... until her strength ran out.  Then she would fall flat (trusting that Tom would catch her).  She gave Tom a lot of joy and comfort by treating him special.

Waving:  When she wanted something or to play with you, she would sit and wave her paw at you trying to overwhelm you with cute.  It never failed her!

Stomping:  Thinking she had a future with riverdance, she would often practice her stomping while playing.  It is hard to explain but picture a 12 inch long puppy stomping with all she's got.  Cute huh?

Sick:  She was sick twice.  The first time she grabbed a dead bird when Tom wasn't looking and tried to eat it.  Tom managed to get half of it out before she swallowed, but she had an upset stomach for about 4 days.  The second time, she got some chocolate in front of mommy's place and had the upset stomach for 2 days.

Diet:  When Tamara started her diet, Treat decided she would help as much as possible.  She explored alternative foods such as carrots, oranges and grapes.  She would suck all the juice out of the grapes and leave the skins for mommy to find, but first she would play with the grape for 10-minutes or so.  She didn't like oranges.  She liked carrots, shaped like little bones with a weird consistency.

Bones: Treat really loved bones.  We started her off with the Bacon compressed fiber type.  Then we later gave her the corn starch type.  She liked the Bacon, chicken and sometimes the cheese.  Finally about two weeks before her accident Tamara found a new type called Booda bones.  They were the corn starch type but had little spikes all over them to massage her gums.  She really liked that type.

Peanut Butter: At Richards we gave her some peanut butter.  She liked it and did the whole tongue thing.  She also liked to help Tom eat peanuts.
